Is it possible for a video posted on YouTube to go viral on its own? I know some people may need to share it, but could it be possible that it will actually push a video to go viral if it's shared by a popular person? Or could a video just happen to go viral with no help at all?

Not really. A video anywhere needs some sort of push. Even if the video is posted on YouTube it'll get some views, it may not get many. Someone may come in and share it, in turn getting it to go viral, so it technically doesn't go viral on its own. I don't think any videos go viral on their own, especially since many have the help of adwords and advertising.
