Simple site design, or really creative?

Well it depends. Starting a site, I feel I would like to just make something beautiful, yet simple. I don't want to go overboard and make a site that's overcrowded, has too much content or graphics or whatever. I like simple and elegant over some of the sites out there. Some sites try to cram so much on one page, don't do that, it'll hurt the overall look of your site and will drive traffic away.
